Dear LMBB friends, I am here AGAIN and yes, you know what is coming: a bit of a chat regarding yet another taboo! After going into the world of sex toys, let’s now breach the topic of women’s intimate health from the first menstruation to menopause. Interested? Well, with good reason. You might be used to pads, tampons and your usual methods, but did you know there’s a new generation of period protection -a better alternative- that is waiting for you? I am here to tell you all about it and, as always, I have also found a very a special discount just for our LMBB community.
Menstrual cups 101
Let’s dig in. How many of you have heard about menstrual cups? I only first started hearing about them about 2 years ago only but just recently tried them out. Now my whole approach to that “dreaded time of the month” has changed! And I am not the only one. Many women have already experienced their benefits first-hand. In all honesty, I was very reluctant to change my habits and try a menstrual cup at first (I don’t even like tampons!). However, once I tried it out, the only thing in my mind was: “Why did I wait this long???”.
My first experience with tampons was not great and the idea of sticking a menstrual cup down there just kept bringing it back… I was a teenager at the time and, after giving in to my insisting friends, I tried to use a tampon for the first time. I puffed and huffed to no avail. Later, when I came out of the toilet, I said to my friends: “J’ai failli tomber dans les pommes”, which literally means “I nearly fell in the apples”, and is, of course, translated as “I nearly fainted!”. Not a happy ride!
Picture me… years later trying to roll this little cup and thinking “I will never manage!”. But lo and behold!, I did and it worked! Much more easily than a tampon for sure. This time, I tried two different brands and my absolute favorite is without a doubt the Lily Cup from INTIMINA, a Swedish brand specialized in intimate care products for women. Intimina offers a wide range of products carefully developed under the supervision of a Medical Advisory Board. By the way, Intimina also sells Kegel trainers for the pelvic floor! As soon as I have done my homework and tried them out, count on me to let you know all about my findings. But let’s not lose track…
Back to my menstrual cups discovery. Not only did my first attempt to use one worked but it also surprised me with its efficiency! Of course, you need to try it out to learn how to position it, but once you know how, you will be free for about 12 hours: no changing, no cleaning, no bother. At first, I didn’t believe the cup could remain for more than 2 or 3 hours without being emptied but whenever I checked I was impressed by how little we really bleed. From woman to woman, tampons and pads give us the impression we bleed a lot since we need to change them so often but with a menstrual cup, you will feel free and safe for hours and hours.
The what and how
For those of you who haven’t tried them yet, especially those who have to deal with tampons or pads and are ready to GIVE UP on them, let me share with you how to use them and choose them. First of all, remember menstrual cups are reusable. This means after each use you simply need to wash your hands and wash the cup with soap. Inserting it is easy: just like a tampon. And don’t worry about safety: menstrual cups are made of ultra-soft, medical-grade silicone, completely hypoallergenic.
To remove and empty the menstrual cup, the procedure is very simple. Each cup has a stem you can use to grip for removal. You can also trim it in case you find it too long! If you have any questions regarding how to use your menstrual cup and care for it, check out the detailed instructions provided by INTIMINA on their website. As far as size goes, Intimina gives you a choice between size A, if you have not given birth or given birth by cesarean like me, or size B if you have given birth vaginally or have a weaker pelvic floor.
And if you’re like me and like to go out carrying only a very small purse, you can try out the collapsible Lily Cup, a new concept that will give you the freedom to run about town without this huge concern in your mind!
A special offer just for you!
After my detailed research, I got in touch with Intimina and talked to them about our community. They loved the idea and have offered a prize for a special LMBB raffle!
